The Spanish Army is committed to the acquisition this year of a new floating bridge system to modernise the capabilities of the 12th Regiment of Pontoons and Engineer Specialties (RPEI), based in Zaragoza.

Improved Ribbon Bridge

The Pacdef also includes another item of 1.4 for an auxiliary bridge launcher, which in the end raises the planned investment to almost 12 million euros. The head of RPEI No. 12, Colonel Sanz, explains in the latest issue of Digital Tierra magazine that the acquisition of this new floating bridge is one of the most important challenges for the unit. Their arrival, he details, “will require adapting the organization of the Unit, its infrastructures, procedures, instruction and training programs and the necessary logistical support, in order to be able to provide this improved capability to the forces as soon as possible.”

The purchase of this system appears in the Ministry of Defense’s Annual Procurement Plan (Pacdef) 2024, the document that includes the contracts that the department plans to launch throughout this year. The project, according to the available information, has a budget of more than 10 million euros (10,428,000 euros) and the tender will be managed by the Army Logistics Support Command (MALE).
