Saudi Arabia will acquire $142 billion worth of defense equipment from the U.S. in the largest single arms deals done between the two countries.
Riyadh will receive “state-of-the-art warfighting equipment and services from over a dozen U.S. defense firms,” a fact sheet published by the White House stated following the signing of the deal during President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia on May 13.
The White House said the deal was part of a broader, $600 billion Strategic Economic Partnership between the two countries that also includes sales of Boeing aircraft to Saudi commercial aircraft lessors, construction and technology projects.
No specific details on the equipment Saudi Arabia plans to acquire have been revealed, but they fall into five categories: air force enhancement and space capabilities; air and missile defense; maritime and coastal security; border security and land forces modernization; and information and communication systems upgrades. The deal also includes training and support as well as enhancement of Saudi military training academies and military medical services.
