Peru; Increased cooperation in the defense sector

The newly elected Minister of Defense of Peru , Pedro Cateriano Bellido and U.S. Ambassador in Peru, Rose M. Likins held a working meeting where they discussed the military cooperation between both countries .
During the meeting, U.S. Ambassador confirmed the commitment of the government of his country in support of the Peruvian government and its armed forces . Likins has on several occasions, the policy of combating drug trafficking implemented by the government of Ollanta Humala .
Both sides agreed on the desire to improve relations and areas of Regional cooperation in the field of defense, with renewed emphasis on education, training and military equipment. The meeting is timely, given that both the legislature and the executive Peruvians have recently allocated additional resources to purchase materials and equipment for the armed forces.
Present at the meeting the CEO of International Relations Ministry of Defense of Peru , Mario Lopez Chavarri and Major General U.S. Army , Jame Hoyer .
